My mother’s salad dressing recipe was the magic bullet she used to get four children to eat their vegetables. And for good reason: it was subtly sensational. I took the recipe with me when I left for college and before long, I was using it to get my own children to eat their vegetables.

My brother, Paul, had long-believed there was a business waiting to be built with Mom's dressing, so I had a dinner party to ask some trusted friends and family if it was nuts to give this a whirl. The consensus was "Yes, but you should do it anyway." My friend Jim named it that night, my friend Inslee hand-illustrated some gorgeous vegetable ladies for the labels, and Paul, naturally, nodded self-righteously.

I began sharing the dressing with friends... who then shared it with their friends. Soon I was delivering salad dressing around the neighborhood, until our local Whole Foods caught wind and asked to try it. Now, we're delivering it to neighborhoods all over the country.
